Sr Elizabeth Mary says "Farewell" to her three-year Mission
Sr Elizabeth Mary travelled to The Gambia in 2002, to serve our West African Mission, in the village of Makumbaya. She has recently returned home with a treasured store of memories, gained from her living so whole-heartedly such a rich cultural experience.

The focus of her work was COMMUNITY WELFARE. She made Health promotion a priority, a task to which she was well-suited because of her varied experience as a qualified nurse.

The above photo shows some of the women and children who meet with Elizabeth Mary to discuss such issues as malaria, T.B. diabetes, chest infections, skincare and HIV/AIDS.
Needlecraft, Pattern-making, African Dress design, Crochet, Embroidery and Tie and Dye techniques were among the skills thoroughly enjoyed by the women.

Community Welfare includes all aspects of village life. Muslim and Christian Feasts are celebrated with neighbours enjoying and sharing the events to the full.
