My Experience of being an SSJA Associate by Pat Price

The invitation to become an Associate was for me a gift that held both joy and trepidation. Joy at being included in the family of the Sisters of St Joseph and sharing their Spiritual heritage. Trepidation in case I'd be asked to evangelise!

My experience has been one of enrichment from the spiritual nourishment offered to us, refining us, quietly, simple and gently. The Sisters have helped us to see the many opportunities that each day presents to serve the Lord.

One of our group works in the Abbey Bookshop, another with the Spiritual Resources Team in the Diocese, others have led Ecumenical Prayer Days at the Abbey as well as Holy Hours, while others work as Teachers' Aides, Nurses or Home Helps. As one member said, the Associate experience has built in her a quiet confidence enabling her to reach out to people. Another said it has had a ripple effect in her life, flowing out and influencing her every action.

It has certainly opened up and deepened my Prayer life, developed my sense of identity and given me the courage to bring my negative self into God's light.
