PEOPLE AND EVENTSProfession of Religious Vows in TambacoundaOn the 4th April 2008, Sisters Agnes, Lucienne and Justine made their first profession of Religious Vows. These three Sisters from Congo Brazzaville, joined our Region of Senegambia in May 2006. Since then, they have earnestly studied our Charism and spirituality.
In our chapel, festively decorated for the occasion, the youth choir sang joyfully as specific gifts and symbolic items were carried to the altar at the offertory. A picture of our Congregational Tree was presented to signify the seed sown in 1650 by our first six Sisters and Fr. Pierre Medaille. The Ceremony evidenced the new shoots of this now mature tree. A clay pot of Congolese earth containing a young plant symbolised the new life brought from the Congo to our family of the Sisters of St Joseph. We are privileged to have six Congolese sisters in our Region.
Sister Helene, of « Caritas Christi » came from Brazzaville to celebrate with us. Unfortunately our dear friend, Bishop Kombo of Owando was unable to attend. At the end of the ceremony the sisters received their mission appointments. Sr. Agnes has joined the “Colline” community, Sr Lucienne has started her ministry in Kedougou and Sr. Justine is a member of the Lamin Community.
The sisters thanked all those who supported them on their long journey to this day. After a joyful and lively ceremony we all shared a meal “al fresco”, and as there was no electricity we admired the decorated tables and enjoyed the food and the company by candlelight!
Congratulations! Agnes, Lucienne and Justine, we are delighted that you are now integrated into our Congregation.
